I love seeing cuddly, delicate, well rendered, beautiful VEGETABLES: I feel like making them precious makes us reconsider our relationship to the original object. And this here actually IS how I feel about the vegetables I grow in my garden, and hence, the way I feel about vegetables in general.

Nature enthusiast and fibre artist Leigh Martin has been hard at work on an awesome project entitled 52 Forms of Fungi for which she is knitting beautiful and impressively realistic pieces of fungi each week. They look particularly wonderful photographed in natural settings.

“It’s no secret that I have an affinity for fungi, and that I am also a slightly obsessed knitter. I’ve decided to challenge myself this year (because after all, what is the New Year for if not for challenges) to take my favorite combo (knitting and fungi) to the next level by knitting 52 different forms of fungi in 2013.”

Taking pictures of your own feet is hard, guys. But look, a pair of socks! (Wow, another one, Emma? How many pairs of socks have you made yourself? (IT’S A LOT OKAY I LIKE SOCKS))

Pattern: Paraphernalia. Pretty cables! Sizing for different foot lengths! I like this pattern, you guys.

Yarn: Gorgeous hand-dyed Sundara Sock in a limited edition colorway a while ago called Perfect Fit. Sundara’s usually out of my price range but I snapped a skein of this up on sale and unfff, you guys. Warm, complex browns are the best and I love them.

Modifications: shockingly none???? I just really like this pattern!

Clearly the week before finals when I have no time for anything ever is the correct time for my triumphant return to knitblogging. Here are some mittens I made for my fantastic roommate. They were originally for Christmas but, uh, I actually ended up finishing them closer to her birthday

which was last Wednesday

moving on. Two of Tess’s major interests are cats and the internet, so here, Cat-and-Cheezburger mittens.

Do you want specifics??? okay here we go!

Pattern: Loosly based off of Cheezburger Mittens [rav] by Spillyjane

Yarn: Mostly a metric shitton of Knit Picks Palette. I don’t feel like looking up what colors right now but they’re mostly the ones specified in the pattern, so.

Modifications: I charted the cat myself after an exhaustive search of Ravelry that returned nothing of the right dimensions. And I changed the cuff because you don’t own me. And I made them longer, because apparently Tess has unusually long fingers?

HEY OBERFOLK. Do you want to see my winter term project in person? It’ll be displayed in FAVA along with the beautiful clothing the From Yarn To Garment folks made starting tomorrow until Sunday the 12th. You should probably also go see From Yarn To Garment’s fashion show in FAVA tomorrow at 1:00pm, and I’ll be standing next to my monsters for a little while afterwards, in case you have questions or anything.

Day 13: This started out as a flapper octopus but then I changed my mind about five hundred times, and I guess in that time the octopus aged 20 years because now it’s more 40s. Is the cigarette holder recognizable as such? Probably not. Oh well, I like it. I want to put a veil on the hat, eventually, when I can get my hands on appropriate fabric.
